Kent George Named Aviation Department Director for Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners has voted unanimously to approve Kent G. George, Chief Executive Officer of the Allegheny County Airport Authority in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as the new Aviation Department Director to oversee the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL).
“We are pleased to have Mr. George coming on board,” said Pam Brangaccio, Broward County Administrator. “He has had a stellar, lifelong career managing aviation programs and has earned the respect of industry leaders worldwide.” Mr. George will assume his new position in October 2007.
George has over 35 years experience in aviation. George has been Chief Executive Officer at the Allegheny County Airport Authority since 1998. Prior to that he held similar positions in Moline, Illinois and Reading, Pennsylvania. At Pittsburgh, he oversees the airport’s $135 million operating budget. The Broward County Aviation Department’s annual operating budget is $137 million. At FLL, George will oversee an airport located in the middle of the country’s fifth largest metropolitan area, which is on track to host 22 million passengers this year. FLL is also undergoing a $1.2 billion renovation, including a $694 million runway expansion.
Active in professional and civic organizations, George is immediate past chair of the Airports Council International – North America, and is a member of the Airports Council International World Board and the Pennsylvania Governor’s Aviation Advisory Council. In his community, George is a member of the Pittsburgh Regional Alliance, the Convention and Visitors Bureau, Airport Area Chamber of Commerce, and the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute Board of Directors.
George has a Master’s in Business Administration from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and a bachelor of science degree in aviation management from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida. He is an accomplished pilot with a commercial pilot’s certificate.
